Russia’s auto industy has been falling down along with other divisions of heavy industry since the collapse of Soviet Union. Foreign car brands like Toyata, Ford and Chevrolet are taking great market share in this country while Russian car brands stay unkown to the outside world. Here is a list of 5 major Russian car brands which hopefully will become more popular in the future.

1. Lada

Lada is the top Russian car brand which is owned by AvtoVAZ, a Russian car manufacturing corporation headquartered in Tolyatti, Samara Oblast. All AvtoVAZ cars are sold under the brand Lada.

2. GAZ

Literally Gorky Automobile Plant, GAZ was founded in 1929 with an technical assistance agreement between Soviet Union and Ford. Its Volga series cars used to be a symbol of high social position in the Soviet Union era.

3. TagAZ

A major car brand in Russia. Tagaz was founded in spring 1997, under license and technology of South Korean concern Daewoo Motors. Tagaz products include Vortex Estina, Vortex CordaVortex,  Tingo, TagazTager, Tagaz Road Partner, Tagaz Vega and Tagaz Master.

4. UAZ

UAZ is an auto manufacturer based in Ulyanovsk, Russia which manufactures off-road vehicles, buses and trucks. It is best known for its Model 469 jeep, which has seen wide use as a military vehicle in Russia and around the world.

5. KaMAZ

KaMAZ is a mojor Russian auto brand which is well known for its Heavy-Duty trucks. KAMAZ is the largest truck producer in Russia. The factory produces 260 trucks a day. Reinforced KAMAZ trucks are used by the Russian army.
